NYCCT members now include 26 community colleges of The State University of New York along with the six community colleges of the City University of New York. We adhere to our mission of strengthening trustees through education, focus communication and advocacy. We strive to clarify the role of the trustee and to improve community college board operations. Message from the President Dear Esteemed Colleagues, It is a privilege and an honor to address you as the newly elected president of the New York Community College Trustees and Board Chair at Nassau Community College. I have been a trustee since 1995. Im proud to have served under three Governors (Cuomo, Pataki and Paterson), two county executives and one Nassau Community College President, namely Dr. Sean Fanelli, who has served as friend, mentor and an excellent president. It is an exciting and challenging time for NYCCT as we continue to build on our recent successes: our 55th annual conference in Niagara Falls, the sponsorship of the 15th annual Phi Theta Kappa Awards Ceremony and our visits to Rockland CC, Mohawk Valley CC, and Herkimer CCC, and the annual conferences of the New York Community College Presidents Association and the Community College Business Officers Association. NYCCT adheres to its mission of strengthening trustees through education, communication and advocacy. We strive to clarify the role of the trustee and to improve community college board operations and effectiveness by providing education and professional development for new and experienced trustees, including student trustees, at our fall Trustee Institute, our annual spring conference and with board workshops, retreats and self-evaluations. As you can see, we are reinstating the NYCCT newsletter; we are continuing to redesign our website and update our spring and fall directories of all New York Community College Trustees. We continue to reach out to individual community college boards to find out how best to serve the needs of community college trustees across the state. We continue to look for ways to collaborate on issues of mutual interest and purpose with NYCCAP, FCCC, CCPAO, and CCBOA as well as The City University of New York, the State University Office for Community Colleges and the SUNY Board Committee on Community Colleges. We are proud to have one of our very own, Dr. Arthur C. Anthonisen, past president of NYCCT and Trustee at Orange County Community College officially installed as the Chair of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) during the fall 2008 Convention in New York City. Ten community colleges, as members of both NYCCT and ACCT, graciously contributed to support a reception, hosted by Orange CCC and JMZ Architects and Planners, to celebrate Arthurs new role. It is with great pleasure we welcome four new board members to the NYCCT Board of Directors. From Herkimer CCC, we welcome Board Chair Donald Snyder and thank Dr. Ann Marie Murray for her support. From Tompkins Cortland CC, Board Chair Roxann Buck has replaced William Raynor and from Ulster CCC, David Rylance returns to our Board to replace Anne Donovan. In addition, Hudson Valley CCs Secretary to the Board and former Trustee George Raneri has also joined the NYCCT Board. I am delighted to serve as NYCCT President and I welcome all of your ideas as we move forward and work together. Sincerely, Mary A.
