Enable the Language Encoding Auto-Select Feature

The external web site is encoded in a foreign language. If you are having trouble viewing the external web site, you can enable the Language Encoding Auto-Select feature on your browser.

To correctly display Web pages encoded in any language for browsers:

For Internet Explorer versions 6.0.2 and higher

  • On the View menu in Internet Explorer, point to Encoding, and then make sure Auto- Select has a check mark. If it doesn't, select it.

  • If you are prompted to download language support components, click Download.

If Auto-Select cannot determine the correct language encoding, and you know what language encoding it should be, you can manually select it.

  • On the View menu, point to Encoding, point to More, and then click the appropriate language.

  • If you are prompted to download language support components, click Download.

For Netscape Navigator versions 7.1 and higher

  1. Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.

  2. Under the Navigator category, click Languages. (If no sub categories are visible, double-click Navigator to expand the list.)

The Languages preferences panel allows you to choose the languages and character coding for displaying web pages:

  • Move Up / Move Down: Click one of these buttons to move a selected language up or down, which sets the order of preference for the listed languages.

  • Add: Click this to add additional languages for displaying web pages.

  • Remove: Click this to remove a selected language.

For Mozilla Firefox versions 1.5.0.2 and higher

Firefox usually chooses the character encoding for the page automatically, but if you are still having trouble opening the web page:

  • Open the View menu and choose Character Encoding.
  • Under Character Encoding, choose Auto-Detect, and then click on Universal.
