Some of the most important scientific questions, such as those that directly affect the health, safety, and well-being of the human race cannot be fully answered by any one individual or discipline. These questions require networks of researchers that are not bounded by the traditional disciplinary or institutional boundaries. SUNY is poised to show leadership by creating opportunities for research collaborations that transform how research is pursued and how students are experientially engaged. To bring together SUNY's top scholars and industry experts to spur this research and commercialization in high demand areas, SUNY has established five Networks of Excellence.
By bringing together the varied expertise within all sectors of the university into a collective network, SUNY can better position itself to become a national and international scientific leader, compete for research grants, provide authentic enriching research experiences for graduate and undergraduate students and educate the next generation workforce.
