Deputy Chief of Police (MP)

This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations. This position replaced Assistant Director of Campus Public Safety (MP) in 2005 and has the same description as Assistant Chief of Police. This title is provided to for campuses who prefer the title Deputy to Assistant.

Positions in this family are concerned with the administration of police, security and safety functions at a campus in order to assure a proper atmosphere for the pursuit of the educational objectives of the campus community. The primary responsibilities of these positions are to supervise the daily activities of the university police/security force, to develop training programs for the campus police/security personnel, and to provide liaison between the campus police/security office and various outside agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of two years of formal training beyond high school, with a Bachelor's degree desired; a well-rounded background in police administration or college security work.
