VICE PRESIDENT FOR HEALTH SCIENCES, is responsible for directing a university-based health sciences center, including a large and complex teaching-research hospital and daily relations with affiliated hospitals and other adjacent community medical and medically-related services. Directs a comprehensive education, research and public service program in medical science and the allied health professions, continually directs the study of academic goals, philosophy and approach and the modern delivery of health services, and brings about innovation in these areas; supervises the cultivation of the health professions as university disciplines, development of a viable conception of the center, the fullest interface of the center with the community, experimentation in how best to deliver to every patient in every community, the knowledge and technology needed in con temporary health care, a continuing education program to help health professionals to combat the invariable obsolescence of knowledge which follows so rapidly upon graduation, maintenance of human and compassionate aspects of health care and the building of all of the above on a firm basis of scientific medicine and on the physical, biological and social sciences and humanities which nourish it; directs such related service units as the health sciences library, a program in health sciences communications, laboratory animal services and so forth; may supervise the student health center operation of the campus; serves on many campus committees.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctor of medicine, Doctorate in Public Health, or comparable Doctorate degree and several years of significant experience in high-level management of a health sciences center, preferably one associated with or based in a university setting.
