This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC & CLINICAL AFFAIRS AND DEAN (MEDICINE) performs functions of a Vice President for Academic Affairs but in addition serves as Dean of the College of Medicine at a Medical Center; does related work as required.

Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as first deputy to the President of a campus in all areas of academic program policy and strategy and the conduct of instruction and departmental research. Does related work as required. Initiates and coordinates proposals for new programs or fields of study; leads development of all programs of academic instruction; makes recommendations to the President regarding all aspects of the teaching staff; encourages and coordinates institutional research; determines the most effective use of instructional space, need for educational equipment, and the effectiveness of library, computing center, and instructional resource programs; assures the development of the teaching staff and the academic advisement of students; acts as liaison between the President and the faculty in academic matters; gives general supervision to the preparation of academic publications, statistics, and examination schedules; serves on many campus committees; may serve as Acting President of a campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

M.D. and progressively responsible experience in academic and clinical affairs.
