This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.

Positions in this family are concerned with the provision of health and safety services at a campus of the University.

These positions are found at campus student health centers and, as such, act as the chief nurse and administrator for the facility. At a larger campus may be subordinate to a licensed physician. Responsibilities include supervising the daily health service operation; planning and overseeing procurement and distribution of medication and supplies and equipment; initiating and supervising the activities of the nursing and support staff; monitoring patient progress; assessing patient needs and providing appropriate referral; budget development and expenditure planning; supervision of the maintenance and filing of student health records; completion of all necessary documentation relative to patient care; providing student health service liaison with other campus units and off campus agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in nursing and satisfactory training and experience in hospital administration or other relevant experience.
