This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
Positions in this broad general grouping are involved with the administering of the campus business affairs to support and enhance the academic purpose of the campus. 'They include but are not limited to accounting, budget development, administration and control, the bursar, payroll, and internal audit. Supervision is generally provided by the chief business officer -- either a Vice President for Administration or Director of Business Affairs -- and functional specialists assigned as needed.
PURCHASE ASSOCIATE, under general supervision from the Director of Business Affairs, serves as purchase officer for a campus or for a major segment of a university center. Consults with Academic administrators and faculty to determine and implement effective purchasing for specialized and all other instructions and research needs including the equipping of new academic facilities; uses knowledge of professional purchasing procedures to enable campus administrators to receive maximum use from allocated funds; works in close conjunction with the University system staff, State University Construction Fund, Dormitory Authority, and State Office of General Services; may supervise the campus supply and storehouse program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and/ or appropriate experience in the field.
