This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

Positions in this area are concerned principally with improving communications and relations with both the university's internal and external constituencies in order to insure university accountability for its activities, make well-known its educational opportunities, and make understandable its plans and policies. As such, University Affairs is a direct public service function.

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, acts as university press officer under the supervision of the Director of Communications. Is responsible for researching, preparation, interpretation and issuance of appropriate information on the university generally and its specific programs particularly those of State, national, and world-wide significance, to the news, magazine, radio) and television media and to the Governor's office and State agencies; prepares and disseminates press releases and information relating to the various developments, activities, issues, programs, and policies of the university; responds to requests for information over the telephone; aids campus press offices in their work as need arises.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, with experience in university, public and government relations.
