This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations. Appointees to this title may also possess concurrent faculty rank.

Positions in this series are involved with the administration of professional personnel services at a campus or university system office including, but not limited to employment; classification/compensation, benefits, employee labor relations, staff training and development.

Personnel Assistant provides assistance to the Personnel/Human Resources Director and professional staff in support of one or more functional activities. Generally an assignment of limited duration, service as a Personnel Assistant is structured to train the entry-level professional to assume Personnel Associate level responsibility.

Duties typically include such activities as: providing assistance to Personnel/Human Resources managers and professional staff in the compilation of routine reports, salary surveys and in the collection of data (e.g. AA/ EEO) for analysis; coordinating examination announcement dissemination; listing canvasses and making routine reference checks; assisting in administration of decentralized Civil Service examinations; assembling documentation for classification reviews, for FLSA determinations etc.; participating in new employee orientation, benefits enrollments, clearance reviews and pre-employment physical scheduling and clearances; assisting in preparation of disciplinary incident documentation; assisting in the investigation, hearing and response to contract and non-contract employee grievances; monitoring time and attendance reports, probationary reviews, and performance evaluation notifications; administering applications for CSEAP, LEAP and other sponsored training programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Personnel, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field.
