This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix B of Article XI of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive renewable term appointments in accordance with the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees unless appointed within the "Policies" definition of a temporary appointment.
HEAD COACHES are responsible for supervision and instruction of participants in recognized State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) sports. Sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, track and field, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling, among other future possibilities. They may also assist with the operation of club sports and intramural activities on a campus. During a particular sport's season, the Head Coaches duties include running practices, coaching games and scrimmages, ensuring equipment is available and preparation and administration of a budget. On road trips, Head Coaches are responsible for monies provided for meals and lodging. Head Coaches may also be responsible for the supervision of facilities such as ice arenas, gymnasiums, swimming pools, and fitness centers. Head Coaches have primary responsibility for recruitment meetings with prospective student athletes who visit the campus and scouting at high school athletic events.
A Master's degree in Physical Education or other relevant discipline playing background in the sport and previous coaching experience..
