Executive Officer (MP)

This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

Positions in this series are concerned with the administration of the training ship during the summer sea session of the Maritime College also serving as members of the academic staff or administration during the regular academic year.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER acts as the direct representative of the Commanding Officer of the training ship aboard ship during the entire year. Assumes command of the ship, if necessary, during annual cruise operation periods. Is responsible for preparation of the ship's station bill and for the administration of the ship's internal organization; has charge of the maintenance of the training ship and of the morale, discipline, welfare, and privileges of the students; is responsible for preparing for the annual inspection of the ship by the Coast Guard; conducts professional classes under the director of the Chairman, Department of marine Transportation, of the Faculty during the academic year.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree; possession of the highest professional license issued by the Coast Guard; experience in accordance with General Order Number 87, Title 46 of the U. S. Code.
