ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (MP) administers service, educational and research functions in the areas of safety, sanitation, industrial hygiene, and radiation health as they relate to students and staff at a campus. Does related work as required. Supervises the sanitary storage, preparation, and serving of food and all food services; inspects on-campus housing areas for proper safety and sanitation standards and consults with the campus housing office concerning the establishment of housing standards; inspects all campus-controlled swimming facilities and arranges tests of pool water samples; provides for the prevention and control of rodents and insects on campus; plans and inspects waste disposal methods in institutional facilities; receives and investigates reports of communicable diseases in the campus community; supervises the water supply system to ensure conformity with sanitary code regulations; investigates environmental conditions and problems in laboratories, shops, barns, storerooms, and other facilities; consults with academic staff regarding possible or anticipated hazards associated with the introduction of new methods or materials; educates staff and students to basic environmental safety; provides information and maintains records concerning the use of radioactive material or apparatus; plans educational programs to instruct the campus in radiological health hazards; cooperates with other campus officers in establishing safety standards; records and analyzes accidents on campus property and administers compensation cases; develops educational programs encouraging a safety orientation for the campus.
Bachelor's degree and experience in the administration of a safety or sanitation program, preferably in an educational institution.
