This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.
Director of Field Studies, plans and directs an academic work-study program with opportunities for students to spend a portion of their academic careers at field projects related closely to their campus classroom and laboratory programs. Does related work as required. Works closely with faculty involved in the development of curriculum to insure the development of a field program which is integral to the curriculum; designs and arranges for a wide variety of field studies programs related to all phases of the curriculum of a college, including the design of new programs as new curricula are added; researches and makes recommendations on questions concerning the assignment of academic credit, the amount, type and method of supervision necessary for students in the field, and development of evaluation techniques; arranges, assigns, and supervises acceptable field projects for students as recommended by the faculty.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Doctorate and several years of experience in teaching, including experience in the development of work-study programs.
