Director 08 (SL6)

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.

Positions in this series are concerned with the administration of a specialized research center. A research center usually provides for study, instruction, and public service in a particular area of academic endeavor, often cutting across disciplinary lines. It should be noted that a research center may be university-wide in scope, providing inter-campus leadership in an area of scholarly concern, or may be confined to a single campus servicing the needs of a particular academic program or department.

Many titles in this series are followed by a descriptive phrase that serves to identify the particular center, institute, bureau, or program.

This title is distinguished from Director that has been designated managerial/confidential because it is not assigned significant responsibilities for making policies or in the administration of collective negotiating agreements.
