Director of Great Lakes Laboratory (SL6)

 

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.

The Director is the leader of the Great Lakes Laboratory. The laboratory is concerned with environmental problems and issues related to the Great Lakes ecosystem. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: creating, instituting, and directing programs in applied and basic environmental research with emphasis on the environmental problems related to the Great Lakes ecosystem; initiating and developing contacts with federal agencies, state agencies, and private industry to obtain funds for research programs at the Great Lakes Laboratory; managing the budget, facilities and personnel of the GLL; defining areas of research, providing the Staff guidance and assistance in locating sources of funding for their projects; assisting research staff in writing proposals.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in the biological or physical sciences with experience in leading interdisciplinary research teams.
