This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

Positions in this area are concerned principally with improving communications and relations with both the university's internal and external constituencies in order to insure university accountability for its activities, make well-known its educational opportunities, and make understandable its plans and policies. As such, University Affairs is a direct public service function.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, is responsible for the coordination of a university-wide program of internal and external communications with the media, television, radio, magazines, campuses community groups, State and local governments and others. Directs media relations, including press communications; is sensitive to all university developments, programs and issues and provides essential interpretation and information regarding university services and programs to interested parties; supervises the production, editing and distribution of many types of substantive materials, for the dissemination to the various university internal and external constituencies; directs the expansion of the communications program, as the university increases in size and scope; specifically, in the area of campus relations, works on faculty issues and with faculty directly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, with significant experience in university and government relations public relations and news reporting.
