Director of Biological Sciences Laboratory, administers instructional and research laboratories and facilities in conjunction with a program or department in the sciences. Does related work as required. Assists the Department Chairman in planning for the most effective utilization of available laboratory space and in the creation of specialized shops and utility services; prepares studies concerning planned space utilization based upon student enrollments, equipment, staffing, and security; provides laboratories, classrooms, and offices with necessary supplies, equipment, furnishings, and services; initiates orders for and supervises the installation of new equipment; institutes acquisition procedures to assure the availability of supplies as needed; establishes inventories of expendable supplies; prepares capital equipment lists and facilities programs. Is responsible for establishing and maintaining adequate standards of safety and security in all research and instructional facilities; conducts periodic inspections to determine any conditions which require corrective action, repair, and maintenance; investigates and reports to the appropriate campus service all defects, failures, and malfunctions; supervises technical and support staff in the use of laboratories for research and instructional purposes; may conduct individual research projects and instruct in undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience in the administration of laboratory facilities in an academic or research institution. Although not required, the master's or doctoral degree is desirable
