This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.
Positions in this series are concerned with the administration of the training ship during the summer sea session of the Maritime College also serving as members of the academic staff or administration during the regular academic year.
CAPTAIN OF THE TRAINING SHIP/Commandant of Cadets assists the President of the College by acting as Director of Administration during the academic year. He is responsible to the U. S. Department of Commerce for the training ship on loan to this College. Administers the entire summer sea training program; is responsible for the safe operation and seaworthy condition of the training ship; oversees the safety and well- being of all personnel on the training ship. Under the President is responsible for all administrative matters not specifically within the province of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Students, or the Director of Business Affairs; acts as College Safety and Security Officer and as Chairman of the Safety Council of the College in the maintenance and instruction of safety standards ashore and afloat.
A Bachelor's degree; possession of the highest professional license issued by the Coast Guard; experience in accordance with General Order Number 87, Title 46 of the U. S. Code.
