Associate Provost for Health Sciences (MP)

This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

Positions in this family are responsibile for coordiating the many and complex aspects of the educational and educationally-related programs of the State University System.

ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR HEALTH SCIENCES, has surveillance of all health sciences educational programs in State University below the doctorate level, including the nurse degree programs at the two-, four-year, and Master's degree levels, the allied health professions programs, the social welfare training programs conducted in the Health Sciences Center at Stony Brook, and the health education training programs now in existence or proposed in the future; in close coordination with other officers, has continuing responsibility to determine the future needs for health sciences education in the State University system, with recommendations to the Provost and coordination with the Master Plan program; provides close coordination with the State Education Department and the State Department of Health relative to the educational programs of State University in health sciences, and these agencies' requirements for approval of the programs, licensure, and registration; maintains close and continuing liaison with Provosts and Associate Provosts, and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Program Policy and Planning and liaison with the presidents of all the campuses of State University, including the community colleges, relative to the competence, adequacy, quality, and appropriateness of the health sciences educational programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

A doctorate and extensive experience in significant educational programs in the health sciences; recognition and status in the State, and at the national level, in nursing and the allied health professions field; demonstrated skills in tactful liaison and the capacity for leadership.
