This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
Incuments of positions in this family are major suppliers of sterilized medical/surgical supplies in support of hospital patient care. They are required to have a thorough knowledge of all the specific needs of various areas in the hospital including OR, clinical areas, patient units and laboratories.
Under the direction of the director, coordinates and administers the day-to-day activities of the Central Sterile Supply Department or sections in terms of qualitative and quantitative performance, staffing, scheduling, program planning, budget control, coordination of services, etc. Serves as a consultant to other departments in the proper packaging and usage of supplies/equipment and the sterilization process. Responsible for maintaining updated knowledge of supplies and equipment through regular communication with professional affiliates and through current literature. Oversees evaluation of new products in the hospital; directs the orientation and ongoing inservice programs for the Central Sterile employees; participates in this program for other departments. Maintains the department's quality control program; assists in development, implementation and employee compliance of policies and procedures; handles patient, medical and administrative staff complaints. The position functions under general supervision and supervises subordinates.
Preferred Qualification:
AAS OR Technology or equivalent experience, Certified OR Technician, or American Hospital Association Certification, with at least four years related experience to include one year in an administrative/supervisory capacity.
