As a family, Biomedical Engineering positions are responsible for the investigation and design, development and construction of not readily available biomedical instrumentation, make special Biomedical equipment purchases, repairs, preparation, and maintenance of electronic devices used in specialty areas (Radiology, Clinical Pathology, Respiratory Therapy, Dialysis, etc.) in support of the delivery of quality patient care and research.
Is a member of the management team responsible for overall operations in the Director's absence. Operates and has full charge of an electro-mechanical laboratory engaged in the design and development, testing and evaluation, failure analysis and prevention, repair and preventive maintenance of scientific and medical instrumentation devices; supervise the work of technologist, lab mechanics and precision machinists in the above activities; supervises and approves purchases of parts, tools, accessories and capital equipment required by the lab, inventories and the technical library; is responsible for the maintenance of a safe lab, service assignments, feasibility studies, technical completion projections and evaluations; responsible for maintaining high quality and standards through on the job training, guidance and instructions; sponsors training seminars relevant to the operation, services and state-of-the-art electro-mechanical instrumentation which includes the participation of outside vendors and attends manufacture seminars. Participates in the departments in-service training programs providing instruction to students and all medical staff. Assists the Director in "pre-purchase" evaluations; serves on department Engineering Committee, supervises development and maintenance of work status reports, related reports and documentation; provides technical advice, consultation and instruction to faculty, researchers and clinicians; coordinates with other department units for overall effectiveness; maintains staff and assists Director in setting department policy and goals. Works independently with consultative direction; supervises subordinate staff.
BS in Electronic Engineering or related field and three years experience. Clinical Engineering Certificate (ICC) preferred.
