The positions in this job family assist the physician in determining and maintaining good ventilation status on life support systems for patients who are in need of therapy due to distress or post-operative surgery. They provide therapy, maintain proper settings of equipment in order to obtain acceptable Arterial Blood Gasses, and maintain all equipment for infection control purposes. They plan an active role in performing Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in a Code Blue situation.
Works under the direct supervision of Respiratory Therapist IIs and IIIs and attending physicians to provide respiratory care to patients on the assigned shift; ensures that all equipment is working properly and returns any equipment no longer required; maintains all prescribed record keeping; assists physicians in ventilating patients; records the respiratory progress of patients; explains the use of equipment to patients and assists them in the use of IPPB devices; delivers and assists Nursing personnel in connecting such equipment. Cleans, transports, sterilizes, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control guidelines. Participates in the departments in-service education program. May provide instruction to Respiratory Therapy students.
Preferred Qualifications: AAS in RT or certificate of completion from AMA approved respiratory therapist level program and registry eligible required. Zero to one year of hospital respiratory therapy experience required.
