T.H. Respiratory Therapist I (SL4)

 

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

The positions in this job family assist the physician in determining and maintaining good ventilation status on life support systems for patients who are in need of therapy due to distress or post-operative surgery. They provide therapy, maintain proper settings of equipment in order to obtain acceptable Arterial Blood Gasses, and maintain all equipment for infection control purposes. They plan an active role in performing Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in a Code Blue situation.

Performs and evaluates the application of specialized, advanced respiratory care procedures. Consults with physicians, nurse and other medical staff concerning patient care problems; supervises the transport, disinfection and sterilization of all equipment in accordance with infection control guidelines. Participates in departmental in-service and educational programs; may present lectures and clinical training sessions for medical, nursing and health related professions students and staff; may be involved with research, product evaluations, planning; may represent the department on hospital/campus committee. Reports to the Associate Director and supervises subordinate therapists. May act as shift supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS in RT, RRT or certificate of completion from AMA approved therapist level RT program and three years experience; or AAS in RT or certificate of completion from AMA approved therapist level RT program, five years experience and CRTT.
