T.H. Genetic Counselor (SL2)

 

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

As a family, these positions function to instruct, guide and inform patients in high-risk pregnancies. The incumbents are responsible for designing, implementing and following policies.

Under the guidance and direction of the Senior Genetic Counselor, the Genetic Counselor is responsible for telephone and direct genetic counseling to include:

    Explanation or risk/recurrence factors
    Obtaining genetic pedigrees for patient files
    Explanation of procedures of diagnostic ultrasound and amniocentesis

The incumbent in this position must identify and minimize patient concerns and anxieties relating to testing procedures. Must be able to inform patients of community resources and agencies best suited to meet patient needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree. No experience required at this level.
