T.H. Associate Director of Respiratory Therapy (SL4)

 

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.

The positions in this job family assist the physician in determining and maintaining good ventilation status on life support systems for patients who are in need of therapy due to distress or post-operative surgery. They provide therapy, maintain proper settings of equipment in order to obtain acceptable Arterial Blood Gasses, and maintain all equipment for infection control purposes. They plan an active role in performing Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in a Code Blue situation.

Responsible for the day-to-day management of the delivery of Respiratory Therapy care and all administrative matters pertaining to the department. Assists with budget preparation, selection and purchasing of equipment, staffing, scheduling, development and implementation of policies and procedures, development and monitoring of quality assurance programs, coordination and responsibility for the in-service education program and the delivery of consultative and instructional advice and training to patients, students, and all medical staff. Serves on hospital/campus committees; coordinates and provides respiratory care for acute patients under the direction of a physician; makes rounds to insure the proper operation of equipment, its proper sterilization and that all record keeping is satisfactory. Incumbent reports to the Director of Respiratory Therapy and provides administrative supervision to subordinate technologists.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate in RT, RRT or certificate of completion from AMA approved therapist level RT program. Six years related experience to include one year in a supervisory/ administrative capacity.
