The positions in the perfusion family function as teams to set up, maintain and operate the cardio-pulmonary and related equipment which regulates the passage of blood or other fluid through a vascular bed during and after open-heart surgery.
Assists the primary perfusionist during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. Monitors blood flows, pressures, temperatures, activated clotting times, blood gasses and electrolyte values; sets up cardiopulmonary bypass equipment using sterile techniques; monitors the breakdown of equipment. Maintains disposable supplies and equipment.
