Malatras To Leave – Vice Chancellor for Policy and Chief of State Jim Malatras will be departing SUNY to become Director of State Operations for Governor Cuomo. With this new responsibility, Dr. Malatras will oversee the operations of most state agencies. UAlbany Government Relations – UAlbany recently hired Shelia Seery as their Director of Federal and State Relations. Prior to joining UAlbany, Shelia was Vice President for Research and State and Local Relations at CICU.  She also worked for the NYS Senate Finance Committee as the budget analyst for higher education.

Errata – The June 30th Legislative Update incorrectly listed the dates for the annual conference of the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT). The correct dates for the conference are September 19-21, 2014. Additional details are attached in the NYCCT 60th Annual Conference Event Registration‌.

Campus Crime Reporting & Sexual Assaults – The SUNY Office of Counsel has recently prepared a document which addresses training materials and commentary for the campuses as they work to comply with the Violence Against Woman Act (VAWA) amendments to the Clery Act - SUNY-VAWA-Guidance-2014.pdf

New 2014 Laws – The Governor recently approved the following new laws impacting higher education:

Pending Legislative Issues – The following legislation was strongly supported by SUNY and have been approved by both the Assembly and Senate and are pending delivery to the Governor for final action.

The Great NYS Fair – SUNY once again will have a strong presence at the NYS Fair, August 21st thru September 1st . This year SUNY will be located in the Science and Industry Building along with Upstate Medical University. Cobleskill and Morrisville will also have exhibits throughout the length of the Fair. Note that SUNY Day @ the Fair will be Sunday, August 24th.
