2006 Call for Legislation

As our thoughts turn to the 2006 Legislative Session, we anticipate that the Board of Trustees will consider the SUNY 2006 Legislative Agenda at their meeting in November or December.

At this time we are asking all campuses to submit any suggestions and ideas that you might have for consideration in the 2006 Legislative Agenda.  This may include specific program proposals and ground lease legislation should you be considering a project which requires such action.  While I understand that issues will come up later in the session and academic year, any and all non-budget legislative items should be brought to our attention no later than October 14th.

Should you have any questions regarding legislative proposals, please call our office at your earliest convenience.

SUNY Day 2006

As mentioned in a previous email, in 2006, we are going back to the traditional system-wide SUNY DAY on March 7, 2006.  This will be a system-wide SUNY Day with the theme "Alumni in Public Service".  The day will start with a short breakfast program, a morning of lobbying and a lunch program in which we will invite the legislative leaders to speak.  Afternoon lobbying will follow as your schedule permits.  You should consider bringing to Albany a group representative of your campus community.  For the lunch program, we would encourage every campus to invite their campus alumni that work in public service in Albany, specifically in the Legislature (members and staff),  Governor's office, and key state agencies.

More in depth discussions on SUNY Day 2006 to follow at the Regional Meetings and University Relations Summit in January.

On March 6, 2006, SUNY will host its Annual Legislative Reception in The Well of the Legislative Office Building.  The "Alumni in Public Service" theme will be evident at that function as well.

Advocacy Calendar

Attached please find the 2005-06 Government/Public Relations Advocacy and Meeting Calendar as it currently exists.  As additional dates arise, we will send an updated version.
