September 14, 2005Legislative Update...The 2005 Chapter Laws and Vetoes have been approved by both the Senate and the Assembly during the 2005 Session and its final status following action by the Governor. There remain several bills have not been transmitted to the Governor for final action. Additional updates will be made available when final action dictates. Please note that several initiatives have a direct bearing on the operations of the University and the campuses:
Session Update - The Senate has scheduled Tuesday, September 20th, to return to Albany to address short-term and long-term issues impacting fuel prices. The Assembly has not indicated that they will return for an Albany session, instead they will be conducting public hearings to develop a comprehensive plan to energy costs. Public Hearings - The Senate and Assembly Higher Education committees have tentatively scheduled four joint public hearings to examine public higher education in the state with particular attention to cost and access. The tentative dates are: 10/6 - SUNY Stony Brook; 10/7 - CUNY Graduate Center in NY City; 10/17 - Legislative Office Building, Albany; and 10/24 - SUNY Buffalo State. SUNY Legislative Reception 2006 - The Legislative Reception will be held on Monday, March 6, 2006, from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Save the date. We have reserved The Well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany. Details to follow. SUNY Day 2006 - SUNY Day 2006 will be held in Albany on Tuesday, March 7, 2006. Our 2006 advocacy efforts will focus on this one-day event, thus eliminating the individual sector days. However, that should not stop you from lobbying as a campus on other days during January through March, whether it be for your individual needs or System initiatives. Details on SUNY Day 2006 will be forthcoming. |
