146-01-1 Resolution on SUNY Campus Self-Proclamations - April 28, 2007

RATIONALE:
WHEREAS there is a history of SUNY campuses changing campus informal names; and
WHEREAS in the past, SUNY campuses have attempted to adopt a new self designation such as SUNY's Honors College without System permission; and
WHEREAS these name changes and or self-designations may inadvertantly harm or disadvantage other SUNY campuses; and
WHEREAS SUNY campuses may currently use attributions from organizations or publications such as US News and World Report in their marketing efforts;
RESOLUTION
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the University Faculty Senate requests the SUNY Chancellor to require all SUNY campuses to first obtain written permission from the Chancellor before adopting a name change or a new self-designation; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the SUNY Chancellor provide an opportunity for impact statement from other SUNY campuses before granting permission for a name change or a new self-designation.

Internships: A Guide for Planning, Implementation, and Assessment.
RATIONALE:
WHEREAS in 2004 the Executive Committee of the University Faculty Senate charged the Undergraduate Academic Programs and Policies Committee with the task of creating a guide for the planning, implementation and assessment of internships, and
WHEREAS the Undergraduate Academic Programs and Policies Committee surveyed SUNY campuses to ascertain current practice and perceived needs for internship courses and programs in SUNY, and
WHEREAS the Undergraduate Academic Programs and Policies Committee diligently and thoroughly used these and other national data to create an internship guide, and
WHEREAS the Undergraduate Academic Programs and Policies Committee delivered to Senators at the January 25-27, 2007 SUNY Stony Brook Plenary session a draft of the internship guide for review by all of the SUNY campuses, widely disseminated electronic and printed copies of the document, and incorporated many improvements based on this System-wide review,
RESOLUTION
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the University Faculty Senate adopt Internships: A Guide for Planning, Implementation, and Assessment.

UFS Task Force on SUNY Retirees Service Corps Proposal to Establish a Center for SUNY Retirees
The University Faculty Senate enthusiastically endorses the efforts and proposal of the University Faculty Senate Task Force on SUNY Retirees Service Corps and directs the Senate President to meet with the Chancellor to request the Chancellor's support for the establishment of a Center for SUNY Retirees with appropriate staffing and stable financial support.
