Resolution

Whereas the SUNY Board of Trustees has entrusted faculty "with responsibilities for curriculum, programming, and other matters which may be necessary for the performance of their responsibilities"; and

Whereas shared governance is critical not only to a vital campus community but also to the central work of the academy; and

Whereas the faculty and professional staff assume many duties in regard to governance on their campuses; and

Whereas these governance duties require resources such as professional development, travel, clerical assistance, printing, supplies, space and professional time.

Therefore, be it resolved that Faculty Senate ask the Chancellor to encourage campus presidents and other administrators to engage with campus governance leaders to establish and maintain an open and productive relationship that serves the institution; and

Be it further resolved that Faculty Senate ask the Chancellor to encourage campus presidents to establish a budget to ensure effective campus governance that includes but is not limited to clerical support, assigned time, professional development, travel, printing, supplies, space, and computer technology; and

Be it further resolved that Faculty Senate ask the Chancellor to counsel newly hired campus presidents, acting presidents, interim presidents and officers in charge that effective shared governance requires a strong faculty/administrative partnership.
