Deans – Self evaluation & can suggest additional questions for faculty [et al] survey Faculty, Prof. Staff, MC, select clerical – qualitative & quantitative responses External Evaluators – five (5) selected by Dean President, Provost 360 FEEDBACK: TIMELINE Deans are evaluated every 5 years - formal eval. in summer Organization Committee: • FALL - Communicates with President, Provost, Deans, OIR • asks dean for external evaluators’ contact info • Asks dean for personal statement, additional survey ques. • SPRING - Implements survey, compiles data & authors report DEAN EVALUATION FORM & IMPLEMENTATION Developed by the OC in 2000-2001 Quantitative ratings in 3 areas: Academic Leadership (6), Administrative Decision-making & leadership (5), Success in Advocacy & external affairs (9) + “other” Performance rankings from E[xcellent] to VP[very poor] + CE[cannot evaluate] Open-ended comment areas in each performance area of the form INVITING PARTICIPATION IN EVALUATION Memos sent out in spring to all fac & prof staff, externals One-time-use-only login codes for online form (OIR & Public Affairs) Survey open 2-3 weeks mid semester (March??) Stress anonymity, provide contact information for questions “Only complete …if you have direct experience/knowledge of the dean’s job performance…” ANALYSIS, FEEDBACK, ACCESS TO DATA Quantitative: OIR performs statistical analysis – means, SD Qualitative: OC subcommittee summarizes themes from the comments OC Subcommittee then authors report– delivered to president, provost, dean
