Empire STEM was launched June 2010 and is mobilizing communities to form interconnected regional STEM hubs across the state with goals relevant to local needs, capacities and priorities that are aligned to the Network’s mission, vision and design principles. Hubs have been launched in the Capital Region, Central New York, Finger Lakes, Greater Southern Tier, and Long Island with formation underway in the other economic regions of New York State (see the links and map below).

Empire STEM’s statewide office is based in SUNY's Office of the Education Pipeline in partnership with Battelle, through which it is connected to to the STEMx coalition of 14 state STEM networks across the nation. The geographic layout of the hubs is designed to align with the ten regions of New York State Governor Cuomo's Regional Economic Development Councils.
