Faculty Diversity Program

The Faculty Diversity Program was established in 2008. The program enables SUNY to assist campuses in recruiting stellar faculty from different backgrounds who will contribute to advancing diversity and academic excellence. The recipients of these awards are outstanding scholars who have attained a record of distinction early in their academic careers and demonstrated promise for continued productivity of the highest quality.

The Faculty Diversity Program authorizes the Office of Diversity and Educational Equity to loan faculty lines, at the assistant professor level, to state-operated campuses for a period of three years and provide campuses with a percentage of the faculty members salary for that time period.  Effective for the 2009-2010 award cycle, the total amount that will be allocated for each faculty member appointed under this initiative will increase to $140,000.  The salary support will be allocated to the campuses as follows:
2009-2010 - 80% of negotiated salary up to $75,000
2010-2011 - 75% of negotiated salary up to $50,000
2011-2012 - 25% of negotiated salary up to $15,000
Campuses are also eligible to receive up to $15,000 to develop competitive startup packages for faculty under this initiative.
