Abrupt onset of fever, sore throat, myalgia and non-productive cough .. Fever usually 101-102F, often with prostration .. Myalgias often affect back muscles . Complications more common in the very young, very old, and chronically ill: pneumonia, encephalitis, "toxic shock" syndrome, worsening of underlying chronic illness, death.
