Michael Trunzo was appointed Vice Chancellor for Government Relations of the State University of New York by the Board of Trustees in March 2008. He oversees the Office of Government Relations, the Office of Public Relations, the Office of Design and Printing and the New York Network, the state′s television station. Mr. Trunzo joined the State University in April 2002 as Senior Associate Vice Chancellor.
Mr. Trunzo serves as the chief advisor to the Chancellor for all federal, state and local government issues. The Office of Government Relations is responsible for the formulation of the State University′s legislative program (federal and state), state budget strategies, federal policy issue development, federal earmark funding and sponsored program funding, and the University′s advocacy efforts with the Congressional Delegation, State Legislature, the Executive Branch, other federal and state agencies and local governments.
The Office of Public Relations is responsible for the University′s external affairs including public relations, marketing and communications, publications, and the University Web site. These efforts are coordinated with the Office of Design and Printing. The University is also custodian of the state′s television station known as the New York Network, which he also oversees.
Prior to joining the State University, Mr. Trunzo was the Chief Executive Officer of the Empire State Petroleum Association, a statewide trade association representing the petroleum industry in New York State. He also served as Chief of Staff to the New York State Lieutenant Governor and was Executive Assistant to New York State Senator Kemp Hannon of Garden City, NY. He has also held senior positions with the Town of Islip and the New York State Assembly.
Mr. Trunzo is a graduate of Long Island University – CW Post Campus where he earned a Bachelor′s Degree in Political Science and a Master′s Degree in Public Administration. A native New Yorker, he was raised on Long Island and now resides in Niskayuna, New York.
