During his career at the State University of New York (SUNY), Dr. Clark has held a number of executive positions including the Interim President of the SUNY College at Plattsburgh, the Interim President of the SUNY College at Brockport, Acting Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and University Life at System Administration, the Interim President of the SUNY College of Optometry, and the Interim President of the SUNY College of Technology at Alfred.  Dr. Clark currently serves as Interim Chancellor for the State University of New York.

Before joining SUNY, he worked for eighteen years as a Wall Street analyst and investment banker specializing in healthcare and higher education.  Among his major New York clients were the City of New York, the State of New York, and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.  He has worked on bond issues for private colleges and universities, the City University of New York, the State University of New York, private, not-for-profit hospitals and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Before his Wall Street career, Dr. Clark worked in the New York governmental sector holding various positions with the New York City Housing Authority, New York State Emergency Financial Control Board, New York City Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Alcoholism Services, The Center for Policy Research and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Dr. Clark received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history, cum laude, from Providence College. He attended the University of Fribourg, Switzerland during his junior year of undergraduate study.  He also holds the advanced degrees of Master of Public Administration from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York; Master of Arts in Economics from Fordham University; Master of Arts in Philosophy from New York University and Doctor of Education in Politics and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.  His doctoral dissertation was on the works of John Henry Cardinal Newman, the noted theologian, philosopher and author of the classic treatise on higher education, The Idea of a University.  In April, 2007 he delivered the annual Cardinal Newman lecture at the National University of Ireland.

He is a Vietnam-era veteran and served as a chaplain's assistant with the 8th Infantry Division in Bad Kreuznach, West Germany and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.  Dr. Clark was raised in The Bronx and has been long involved in South Bronx charitable and educational organizations.  He and his wonderful wife Carolyn have two beautiful daughters, Catherine and Bridget.
