Other Requirement Title:
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Finance Survey
January 07, 2003
This procedure item applies to:
The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), established as the core postsecondary education data collection program for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of postsecondary education. The IPEDS system is built around a series of interrelated surveys to collect institution-level data in such areas as finances, enrollments, program completions, faculty, and staff.
Federal law (20 USC §1094) requires colleges and universities to report IPEDS survey information. The IPEDS is the only central database and is used by federal and state officials to develop higher-education policy.
The IPEDS finance survey for all state-operated campuses is prepared centrally by the office of the State University of New York (University) controller. The data included on the survey is derived from amounts reported in the University’s audited financial statements. The completed survey for each campus is provided to campuses annually and is uploaded to the IPEDS database by system administration’s office of institutional research.
