Some of the projects that are still in a developmental stage include, but are not limited to:
- public health (University at Albany)
- cross-border economics and commerce (SUNY Plattsburgh)
- international business, language, and culture (University at Albany)
- sports management (SUNY Cortland)
- music education (SUNY Potsdam)
It is worth noting that, although faculty members at a number of SUNY colleges and universities have various ties to Canada and to Canadian institutions, two campuses in particular are internationally respected for their outstanding work in the area of Canadian Studies and for their collaborative work with Canadian institutions of higher learning as well as with all levels of government in Canada and with leaders of Canadian businesses and enterprises. These are:
- SUNY Plattsburgh - The campus is home to the Center for the Study of Canada and the Institute on Québec Studies
In 2004, SUNY Plattsburgh also established a Visiting Fulbright Research Chair in Canadian studies.
- University at Buffalo - The campus is home to the Canada-United States Trade Center and the Canadian-American Studies Committee
