SUNY played an important role in strengthening academic ties between Quebec and New York. At both the 2004 and 2005 Quebec-New York Summits, Memoranda of Understanding were signed that will significantly increase academic and research cooperation in many fields, including security, aviation, photonics, trade, etc.

On the occasion of the 2005 Quebec-New York Summit, a Memorandum of Understanding is signed between Universit� Laval Rector Michel Pigeon and SUNY Plattsburgh Provost Robert Golden.

SUNY also collaborates with the Canadian government and recently organized events related to Canada Day in Albany on February 28, 2006.
