Recent and current initiatives in Canada include:
- École supérieure de mode de Montréal (Université du Québec à Montréal) - Fashion Institute of Technology
Faculty members from both campuses have discussed a variety of collaborative projects. Among these, the most promising venture is faculty and/or student exchange visits in both directions in order to learn more about work being accomplished in two of their respective fields of expertise, namely children's wear and fashion merchandising. Student internships are also in the planning stage.
- Institut Maritime du Québec (CÉGEP de Rimouski)/Maritime Innovation - SUNY Maritime College and the New York State Strategic Center for Port and Maritime Security
In signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in May 2004, all parties expressed a keen interest in pursuing exchanges and collaborative efforts in the areas of research, science and technology, particularly as these relate to maritime training, transportation, and maritime security. Subsequent to that time, discussion has continued and focused on the possibility of engaging more partners from throughout North America with a view to creating a North American Institute for Maritime Safety and Security. The formal launching of the new enterprise took place on April 9, 2006 with the signing of a subsequent MOU.
- University of Winnipeg - The State University of New York
A general Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is expected to be signed in fall 2006, allowing for the exploration of partnerships between the University of Winnipeg and a number of SUNY campuses in an array of disciplines, including: Native Studies, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, International Relations, and so on.
