Budget Update

The 2008-09 state budget has been passed and the ills are currently before the Governor for final approval.  This past Wednesday, the Chancellor conducted a conference call with the President’s to discuss the budget impact on SUNY.  The attached summary documents were provided which outline the major aspects and impact of the 2008-09 state budget.

System Adminstration staff are continuing to review all budget bills for any additional SUNY related funding initiatives. While there remain many economic development projects to be announced, the Assembly to date has provided a series of comprehensive tables of various appropriations:

SUNY Capital Projects

SUNY Community College Capital Projects

SUNY Hospital Capital Projects

SUNY Critical Maintenance Projects

Assembly Capital Assistance Programs

Assembly Higher Education Press Release

Senate Higher Education Press Release

Legislative Issues

Both the Senate and Assembly Higher Education Committees are back in full swing with meetings scheduled for next week.  We fully expect to have our SUNY legislation agenda finalized by the end of next week.  The Legislature has scheduled their “spring break” the week of April 20th and when they return on April 29, we anticipate that many issues of interest to SUNY and higher education will begin to be discussed in earnest.

We will keep you advised of any additional budget information, as well as legislative issues during the remainder of the Legislative Session.
