Suffolk County Community College has been awarded $675,000 in federal stimulus grant money to be used for water and energy conservation projects at the college's three campuses.
State University at Albany - $72,709

Stony Brook University - $620,000
The Research Foundation of Stony Brook University will receive $120,000 to move forward on research and treatment for multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's and depression. In addition the Research Foundation of SUNY Stony Brook will receive $500,000 for high-resolution equipment to advance studies for a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Upstate Medical University will receive $341,280 in federal investments from HHS to advance research and treatment for congenital heart disease - the most common birth defect. Progress has been made in understanding heart defects, but for many cases the underlying cause is unknown. This project focuses on mechanisms that control heart development to identify genes that may aid in diagnosis, treatment or prevention of congenital heart disease.. University at Buffalo
A total of $1,346,463 to two research institutions in Western NY through the National Institutes for Health. The University at Buffalo will receive $212,022 and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) will receive $1,134,441. This funding will create jobs for those in the field and bolster research efforts on important areas of medicine. A total of $9.9 million will be administered to New York State research institutions. "These projects will invest in cutting-edge medical research at the University at Buffalo and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute," said Senator Schumer. "This funding will not only give an economic boost in the amount of jobs available in Western New York, but will bring us another step closer to solving public health problems afflicting many New Yorkers.
