"SUNY shares the concerns of the New York State Education Department, and the City University of New York about the inaccurate use of financial aid data in the Measuring Up 2006 report. We urge the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education to correct the record.
"New York's Tuition Assistance Program, the nation's most generous need-based financial aid program, combined with tuition and fees below the national average, provides SUNY students a high-quality education that is both affordable and accessible.
"Unfortunately, the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education's Measuring Up 2006 Report badly miscalculates New York's TAP program and inaccurately portrays higher education in New York as unaffordable. Nothing could be further from the truth. Record-setting enrollment year after year and the millions of successful SUNY alumni tell the real story of SUNY's quality and affordability."
