Background By Res. 2009-022, adopted January 27, 2009, the State University Board approved the action of the Stony Brook Council in naming an interdisciplinary research center in honor of Louis and Beatrice Laufer, parents of Dr. Henry Laufer, in recognition of generous gifts by Drs. Henry and Marsha Laufer, both former faculty at Stony Brook. The proposed resolution clarifies Res. 2009-022 and approves the action of the Stony Brook Council in re-naming the former Life Sciences Research Library as the “Louis and Beatrice Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology.” This building is being re-purposed and renovated to house the Laufer Center. This naming honors the uncommon leadership and deep on-going commitment of Drs. Laufer to Stony Brook University. Marsha and Henry Laufer provide exemplary campus, community and philanthropic leadership, and their total gifts and pledges to Stony Brook University exceed $15.5 million.
