Zimpher, Chancellor SUBJECT: Special Service Commendation to Kathleen Preston Action Requested The proposed resolution honors Kathleen Preston, Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs, for her distinguished service to the State University of New York Board of Trustees, System Administration, and the four academic health medical centers of the State University. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Whereas Kathleen Preston commenced her service to the State University in February 2008, and serves presently as Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs; and Whereas Kathleen has worked tirelessly and astutely to advance the mission of the State University’s four academic medical centers and three University hospitals; and Whereas Kathleen worked aggressively to ensure that the State support for the State University’s hospitals was not eliminated in 2011-12, and in 2012-13 worked aggressively to increase the State support for the hospitals; and   Whereas Kathleen worked closely with each of the SUNY Hospitals and assisted them in managing their finances during these very challenging times in the health care marketplace; and Whereas Kathleen assisted Downstate Medical Center with its efforts to move from a single site in Central Brooklyn to a borough-wide system that includes Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill/Downtown Brooklyn and the Urgent Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center in Bay Ridge; and Whereas Kathleen assisted in the acquisition of Community General Hospital by Upstate Medical Center with the goal of building a larger foundation to better serve the Upstate community and the State, by providing outstanding care, educating the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, strengthening research and fueling sustainable economic growth; and Whereas Kathleen facilitated the health team for the Chancellor’s strategic plan, SUNY and a Healthier NY, working hard especially on the Right Professionals in the Right Places and other health policy initiatives important to the strategic vision of SUNY; and   Whereas Kathleen was instrumental in the creation of REACH, the initiative that brought together the impressive intellectual power of the academic medical centers research efforts. Whereas Kathleen Preston has been a great asset to the State University and an enjoyable colleague; now, therefore, be it Resolved that the Board of Trustees honors, and expresses its deepest gratitude to, Kathleen Preston for her distinguished service to the State University of New York Board of Trustees, System Administration, and the four academic health medical centers of the State University.
