Zimpher, Chancellor Subject: Philanthropic Support Action Requested The proposed resolution encourages State University institutions to re-double efforts to obtain philanthropic support for their respective institutions. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Whereas philanthropic support for higher education is a time-honored tradition and is a key component to the financial success of any college or university; and Whereas the opportunity to make philanthropic contributions not only contributes to the financial success of higher education institutions but also is a community-building exercise that encourages students, alumni, faculty, staff and others to contribute to such institutions in other ways; and Whereas philanthropic support is especially important to the State University in an era of decreasing State operating and capital support for the State University and increasing financial burdens on State University students and their families; and Whereas the Chancellor recognizes and commends the members of State University foundation boards and the many donors who have supported the State University over the years for their generous commitments of time, effort and resources; now, therefore, be it Resolved that the State-operated and statutory colleges that comprise the State University and the community colleges under the program of the State University are encourage to re-double their efforts to obtain philanthropic support for their respective institutions; and, be it further Resolved that all State University campuses are encouraged to work collaboratively to identify and implement philanthropic best-practices, initiatives and activities; and, be it further Resolved that the State-operated, statutory colleges and community colleges shall include in their ongoing reports to the Chancellor, and by June 2013 at the latest, their respective new and on-going philanthropic initiatives.
