Zimpher, Chancellor Subject: One Hundredth Anniversary of Farmingdale State College Action Requested The proposed resolution honors Farmingdale State College on its one hundredth anniversary. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Whereas Farmingdale State College is commencing the 100th Anniversary of its founding during the 2011-12 academic year; and Whereas Farmingdale is the oldest public institution of higher education on Long Island; and Whereas Farmingdale has been a member of the State University of New York since SUNY was created in 1948; and Whereas Farmingdale operates unique academic programs that benefit its students including the only public baccalaureate Aviation and Professional Pilot programs in the State; and Whereas Farmingdale is a vital contributor to the economic development of the region through the Small Business Development Center, the Broad Hollow Bioscience Park, the Green Building Institute, and the Institute for Research and Technology Transfer; and Whereas Farmingdale’s Solar Energy Center was the first of its kind in the Northeast to be accredited; and Whereas Farmingdale has been nationally recognized for ranking among the top 150 public colleges in the U.S. in the earnings power of its graduates; now, therefore, be it Resolved the Board of Trustees commends Farmingdale State College for a century of educating students, conducting research, engaging in economic development, and providing innovation as the College embarks on the commemoration of its 100th Anniversary.
