SUBJECT:	Appointment of Dr. Kenneth K. Saunders as Acting President of Nassau Community College
Action Requested
      The proposed resolution approves the appointment of Dr. Kenneth K. Saunders as the Acting President of Nassau Community College.

Resolution

	I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:

Resolved that the appointment of Dr. Kenneth K. Saunders as Acting President of Nassau Community College, by the Nassau County Community College Board of Trustees, at a salary of $225,000, be, and hereby is, approved, effective immediately; and, be it further

Resolved that the approval of this appointment shall be for twelve months or until a permanent president is appointed, whichever event occurs first.   

Background

      Dr. Kenneth K. Saunders was appointed Office-in-Charge at Nassau Community College effective July 30, 2012.  He was appointed upon the departure of Dr. Donald Astrab in June 2012.  
      
      
      Dr. Saunders received his Doctor of Education in Higher Education Management and Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010.  He has held leadership positions at a number of institutions, including Assistant Dean for Student Life and Activities at Howard University, Associate Dean for Student Services at the University of Michigan-Flint, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at SUNY Old Westbury, prior to his appointment as Vice President for Academic/Student Services at Nassau Community College in 1999.
